Thirty open seats across five franchises for the Women’s Premier League 2024 season will be filled by 165 players going under the hammer at this Saturday’s mini-auction in Mumbai.

Of the 165 players, 61 are from outside the country, including 15 from Associate countries, and 104 are Indians. There will be 109 rookies and 56 capped players among the players up for grabs. The following teams: Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals, UP Warriorz, Gujarat Giants, and Royal Challengers Bangalore have discharged 29 players from their rosters and kept 60 players, including 21 international cricketers.

The WPL’s second season is probably scheduled to take place in Bangalore and Mumbai in February and March.

The wage ceiling for each of the five teams is Rs 13.5 crore. Gujarat Giants, who have 13 seats up for grabs, including three international players, will enter the auction with the largest purse of Rs 5.95 crore. Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, have the least amount of money—Rs 2.1 crore—to acquire six players for the team.

Mallika Sagar has been confirmed by WPL as the auctioneer for the major event in Mumbai in 2024. She organized the WPL’s first auction earlier this year and is a Mumbai-based art collector. She participated in the Pro Kabaddi League auction in 2021 as well.
