Z-category VIP security coverage is granted by the Center to Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar

In light of possible threats, the Union government has given Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar a Z-category VIP security cover of armed commandos, according to official sources on Tuesday.

According to the reports, the Central Reserve Police Force has been assigned by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs to provide a detachment of around 40–45 officers for the assignment.

The Central Security Agencies’ danger perception analysis has suggested that Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kumar has a robust disguise. The action was taken in the midst of getting ready for the seven-phase general elections, which start on April 19.

According to the sources, the CEC would go around the nation accompanied by the armed commandos.

Kumar is a 1984 batch IAS officer who is now retired. On May 15, 2022, he assumed office as the 25th CEC.

On September 1, 2020, he was appointed by the poll board as an election commissioner.
