A Hindu temple consecrates a murti via a ceremony called a Pran Pratishtha. To welcome the god as a resident of the temple, sacred songs and mantras are recited.

Additionally, the murti’s eye is opened for the first time during this occasion.

As to the sources, the specific day of January 22 is selected since it falls on the same day as Karma Dwadashi, which is a festival honoring Lord Vishnu.

It is said that Lord Vishnu assumed the shape of a turtle in one of his incarnations on this particular day.

Scriptures state that Lord Vishnu assisted in churning the seas by taking the form of a tortoise. The second shape that Lord Vishnu used to save the earth during difficult times was the “kurma” avatar.

The Varaha avatar comes after the Kurma avatar, while the Matsya avatar, which is said to be the first incarnation of Lord Vishnu, comes before it.

The deity’s fourth manifestation is referred to as the Narashima avatar; the avatars of Vamana and Parashurama come next.

Balrama and Shri Krishna are said to be the last incarnations of the holy deity, while Lord Shri Ram is thought to be the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu.
