Azhar Mahmood has been appointed by PCB as Pakistan’s head coach for the New Zealand Series

Lahore: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday that Azhar Mahmood, a former fast bowler, will lead the men’s cricket team of Pakistan in their forthcoming five-match Twenty20 International series against New Zealand.

Starting on April 18 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and ending on April 27 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, the five-match Twenty20 International series will take place.

In 164 international matches, Azhar took 162 wickets while scoring 2,421 runs, according to a statement released by the PCB.

Previously, Azhar served as the bowling coach for the Pakistan men’s cricket team from 2016 to 2019.

In the meantime, Mohammad Yousuf has been appointed batting coach, and Wahab Riaz has been made senior team manager. As the spin bowling coach, Saeed Ajmal, who oversaw the bowling coaches on the previous tours to Australia and New Zealand, will stay in that role.

In the meantime, Pakistani Army trainers are holding a fitness camp in Kakul, where the men’s cricket squad is now participating. The senior selectors of Pakistan and captain Babar Azam are conferring to finalize the men who will play in the five-match Twenty20 International series.

The Pakistani team has undergone significant changes since their terrible ODI World Cup campaign in India last year.

Conversely, on Tuesday, the Pakistani cricket team’s lineup for the New Zealand series will be revealed. Only a few months before the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, they reappointed ace batsman Babar Azam as their white-ball skipper last month.

After his team’s lackluster performance at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India last year—where it finished in sixth place—Babar stepped down as team captain.

Shan Masood was named the red-ball captain of Pakistan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi assumed leadership of the T20I team.

The following people will provide support to the Pakistani team players for the T20 Internationals in New Zealand: Cliffe Deacon, physiotherapist; Drikus Saiman, strength and conditioning coach; Talha Butt, analyst; Irtiza Komail, security manager; Raza Kitchlew, media and digital manager; Zain Maqsood, videographer; Dr. Khurram Sarwar, doctor; and Mohammad Imran, masseuse.
