Brendon McCullum is upset at Jonny Bairstow’s dismissal and says, “Can’t Imagine We’ll be Having a Beer Anytime Soon”

Brendon McCullum, the head coach of the England men’s team, has voiced his disappointment with the line of events that led to Jonny Bairstow’s dramatic dismissal during the second Test against Australia on Sunday at Lord’s.

Intentionally leaving his crease with the ball still in play, Bairstow gave Australia wicketkeeper Alex Carey the chance to stump him at number 10.

Brendon McCullum, the head coach of Australia, hinted that there may be some animosity between the two sides as a result of the event, which has angered England since Australia did not drop their appeal for the dismissal.

McCullum remarked he “can’t imagine…having a beer any time soon” with the Australian squad in a post-game interview with BBC.

McCullum continued by saying that the Australian team’s conduct was contrary to the rules of the game.

“As you become older and more mature, you realize how important it is to preserve the game’s soul. Making judgments in the heat of the moment may alter characters in video games and real people, according to McCullum.

While acknowledging that Bairstow was out according to the rules, the hitter wasn’t attempting to steal a base.

“He is prohibited by the wording of the law. Jonny wasn’t attempting to run. It is one of those tough decisions to make, and when you consider the slim margins, you realize how disheartening it is. However, a lot of individuals will have views on both sides of the issue. The fact that it will be the most talked-about moment of a fantastic Test match is the most sad thing, he remarked.

Former Australia legspinner Bryce Mcgain criticized McCullum’s remarks and said that the England team’s discussion about the spirit of the game demonstrates “poor leadership” on Ben Stokes’ behalf as captain and head coach.

“Brendon McCullum’s comments were disappointing, saying that we’re not going to greet them and have a beer with them after the game any time soon,” McGain said to SEN WA Breakfast.

“I believe that just demonstrates weak leadership and maybe poor sportsmanship as well. Ben Stokes speaks about the coach setting the tone and the game’s atmosphere. They are searching for the slightest details to really hang their hat on as to why it occurred because they are obviously shaken inside that playing group. In cricket, you can only manage what you do because you are aware that those factors are beyond your control. If Jonny Bairstow had just waited like every other play had, the situation would not have arisen, the expert said.
