Dhruv Jurel I appreciate you comparing, Sunil Gavaskar, but MS Dhoni is a legend

During the five-match Test series that the Rohit Sharma-led squad won 4-1 against England, Dhruv Jurel was one of the team’s discoveries.

Because of his valiant performance in the fourth Test at the JSCA International Complex Stadium in Ranchi, the home town of MS Dhoni, Dhruv Jurel was named Player of the Match.

In the Ranchi Test against England, Jurel struck the game-winning runs for India, securing their 17th straight series victory at home. The Agra native was selected for the final three Test matches of the series at the expense of KS Bharat. Following a strong 46 in his opening innings in Rajkot, Jurel struck a resolute 90 in the first Ranchi Test innings before adding a crucial 39 not out with Shubman Gill to lead India to victory from a precarious position.

Sunil Gavaskar likened the young player to Dhoni during the match while providing commentary.

Gavaskar had said, “I think Dhruv Jurel has the makings of the next MS Dhoni, watching his presence of mind.”

At the India Today Conclave 2024, Dhruv Jurel downplayed parallels to MS Dhoni, nonetheless.

“Many thanks for drawing a comparison between myself and Dhoni, Sir Gavaskar. However, in my opinion, nobody can achieve what Dhoni sir has accomplished. Dhoni is a singular entity. It was and will always be. All I want to be is Dhruv Jurel. “I want to be Dhruv Jurel in everything I do,” he said.

But Dhoni sir is and always will be a legend, Jurel said.

However, Gavaskar underlined that there can never be another MSD and that Jurel has shown glimpses of a promising future when questioned about his remarks that drew comparisons between Dhoni and Jurel.

“It reminds me of MS Dhoni in the way he approaches the game, evaluates the circumstances, and adjusts his batting appropriately. After hitting a six in between, he would search for ones and twos to mix up the strike. The way he collected the misdirected ball, chased Ben Duckett out, and then made an incredible grab of Jimmy Anderson, who attempted a reverse sweep, was even in keeping. MS Dhoni had a similar predicament when he was his age.

That’s the reason I claimed Jurel is comparable to MS Dhoni. Nobody can succeed like MS Dhoni. MS Dhoni is a single individual. However, it would be fantastic for Indian cricket if Jurel could do even a small percentage of what Dhoni accomplished, according to a remark from Gavaskar on Sports Tak.
