India defeats South Africa to win the historic series, and Sanju Samson shines.

Mature maiden Sanju Samson India’s victory against South Africa in the third and final match of the series, which ended on Thursday, was a heady mix of an ODI century and the wiless of a youthful bowling unit on a sticky pitch. Thus, India won the rubber match 2-1, winning their second series on these grounds since 2018. India scored a challenging 296 for eight thanks to measured 108 (114 balls) from Samson and patient 52 (77 balls) from Tilak Varma, his maiden fifty in this format. It was entertaining to see their 116-run partnership for a daring fourth wicket partnership.

Tony de Zorzi’s fifty runs (81 balls) put South Africa in the lead against the visitors, but they were finally bowled out for 218 in 45.5 overs.Arshdeep Singh, a left-arm pacer, guided the Indian bowlers with a respectable four-for-30.De Zorzi and Reeza Hendricks (19) combined for 59 runs in just 8.2 overs as South Africa got off to a strong start in their chase. The former severely damaged bowler Mukesh Kumar during the power play.

But the opening partnership came to an end when Arshdeep got Hendricks to edge one behind the stumps, activating KL Rahul.Axar Patel, a left-arm spinner, reduced the hosts to 76 for 2 when he castled Rassie van der Dussen with a ball that came up his arm.

However, it came after a stretch of steadiness during which Aiden Markram (36), the skipper, and De Zorzi scored 65 runs for the third wicket to hold off India.De Zorzi was a skilled footworker who strategically exploited the depth of the crease to accumulate runs, particularly against Washington Sundar and Axar, two spinners. However, just as their friendship was blossoming, Markram was ousted by Washington, who had come in for Kuldeep Yadav for this game.

The effort by Markram to reverse sweep Washington was unsuccessful as Rahul managed to snag the soaring ball behind the wicket. The DRS victory of Arshdeep over De Zorzi in a leg-before appeal dealt a further blow to South Africa’s ambitions of extending the chase. The low ball thudded upon his front pad as the left-armer sliced it into the Protea opening, causing the Indian camp to rise in protest and ultimately yielding the desired outcome.

Heinrich Klaasen (21, 22 balls) hit a rising ball with firm hands and failed to navigate it from pacer Avesh Khan.In the 33rd over, Sai Sudharsan dismissed Klaasen with a superb acrobatic catch inside the ring, bringing the Proteas down to 174 for five.Ever when the asking rate began to rise, even David Miller was unable to propel South Africa over the finish line.

Previously, Samson had deemed Varma to be the ideal ally to put India in a strong position. After being asked to bat first, India was struggling at 101 for three when Samson and Varma joined forces. However, the two demonstrated outstanding situational awareness and delicately read the circumstances.Their collaboration was focused on being pragmatic while seizing any chance to make a huge shot.Samson, who is typically a free-flowing batter, gave up on his macho plans for the most portion of his inning and focused on singles and doubles since the Boland Park deck had a little bit of sting to it.

However, the right-hander sometimes shown his T20 persona, hitting pacer Nandre Burger for a six over mid-wicket or hitting left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj for a four with a masterful inside-out loft over cover. With a single off pacer Beuran Hendricks to third man, he reached fifty off 66 balls.

However, Varma was having trouble staying in the flow as he was only able to hit a boundary in his 39th ball—a shaky pull off Hendricks. But in order to get India out of the woods, the left-hander provided Samson with some company.

Ultimately, Varma failed in his attempt to speed up, misjudging his sweep of Maharaj and letting Wiaan Mulder catch him in the deep. However, Samson persisted and refused to give up.

The time he forced Maharaj to long-off for a single was a turning point in his career. However, Reeza Hendricks caught skiing off pacer Lizaad Williams within the rings, dismissing Samson as he attempted to step it up.

But Rinku Singh’s impressive cameo of 38 off 27 balls helped India push through the last stages of the innings. However, India was in complete control of the Proteas bowlers before to their impressive comeback.

During his 16-ball 22, debutant Rajat Patidar, who replaced injured opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, was a sight to see, displaying exceptional hand-eye coordination. However, Hendricks caught Sai Sudharsan in front of the wicket with a ball that was slanted into him from above the wicket, and Burger’s exquisite in-dipper that rattled the stumps ended his stay.

Samson and Rahul put up 52 runs for the third wicket, but when the ball deflected off Rahul’s thigh pads during his attempt to pull Mulder, the Indian skipper was caught trying to stump Klaasen. To find a way out and win the series, India did, however, locate two troops who were eager to serve: Samson and Varma.
