Majid Ali, a top Pakistani snooker player, commits himself

Majid Ali, a well-known Pakistani snooker player and Asian Under-21 silver medalist, committed himself on Thursday in his village of Samundri, which is close to Faisalabad, in the Punjab province. He was 28.

Majid apparently had depression since his playing days and used a wood-cutting machine to commit himself, according to authorities.

He was a prominent player on the national circuit and represented Pakistan in a number of international competitions.

The second snooker player to pass away in a month is Majid. Another professional snooker player from abroad, Muhammad Bilal, passed away last month after a heart attack.

According to his brother Umar, Majid has battled depression since he was a teenager and just had another episode.

We never anticipated he would commit himself, thus it is a dreadful event for us, added Umar.

Alamgir Sheikh, the head of Pakistan Billiards and Snooker, said that Majid’s passing has upset the whole community.

“We expected so much from him to bring laurels for Pakistan because he had so much talent and was young,” he remarked.

Sheikh said Majid had no money problems.

After celebrities like Muhammad Yousuf and Muhammad Asif, among others, helped win the World and Asian Championship titles, and some players even advanced to the professional circuit, snooker has gained popularity in the nation.
