Over a kiss at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023, Jenni Hermoso accuses Luis Rubiales of sexual assault

Jenni Hermoso, a Spanish football player, has accused Luis Rubiales of sexual assault for kissing her on the lips after the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup final without her permission, according to the nation’s prosecutors office.

After Spain overcame England to win the championship on August 20, Rubiales, the now-suspended head of the Spanish football federation, kissed Hermoso on the lips during the celebration in Sydney, Australia.

According to Rubiales, there was a kissing exchange. This was disputed by Hermoso. In the immediate aftermath of the crisis brought on by the kiss that ruined her team’s triumph, she also said that the federation placed her and her family under pressure to express her support for Rubiales.

Hermoso has received support from the Spanish government, players, players’ unions, and several Spanish civilians. Despite his unwillingness to retire, Rubiales has become an outcast in football.

In a combative address to his federation’s general congress on August 26, Rubiales refused to quit, claiming he was the target of a “witch hunt” by “false feminists.” The next day, FIFA suspended him from his post.

Hermoso made a claim on Tuesday, the prosecutor’s office claims. Last Monday, prosecutors said they will meet with Hermoso to give her the chance to accuse Rubiales.

After a protracted career with notable Spanish and European teams like Barcelona, PSG, and Atletico Madrid, Hermoso, a 33-year-old attacker, now plays for Pachuca in Mexico.
