PCB suggests three locations for the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy tournament

Three locations have been suggested by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the ICC Champions Trophy, which will take place there the following year.

The Champions Trophy will be held in Pakistan in 2025, which will be the first ICC tournament held there in over thirty years—since they hosted the World Cup in 1996.

The preliminary schedule that was submitted to the ICC included suggestions for the cities of Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. The eight-team competition is slated to take place in mid-February of next year and last for around two weeks.

“The schedule for the ICC Champions Trophy matches in Pakistan has been sent,” PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi said during a Lahore news conference.

“The security crew from the ICC arrived, and our meeting went very well. They examined the arrangements here, and we will also show them the blueprints for the stadium renovation. We maintain constant communication with the ICC. We’re working hard to make sure Pakistan hosts a top-notch competition,” he said.

Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the PCB, expressed confidence about organizing the tournament and mentioned continuing talks with the ICC, notably concerning venue modifications and security plans. The PCB’s initiative shows their dedication to organizing a successful competition.

We maintain constant communication with the ICC. We’re working hard to make sure Pakistan hosts a top-notch competition,” Naqvi said.

Given the tense political ties between the two countries, it is still unclear if the Indian team would play in Pakistan. Because of diplomatic difficulties, India has not visited Pakistan since the 2008 Asia Cup. The Asia Cup was held in a hybrid format last year, with India hosting all of the matches, including the final, in Sri Lanka, due to the Indian government’s refusal to grant BCCI a Notice of Continuance.

Pakistan will have a demanding domestic season that includes hosting an ODI tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand in addition to the Champions Trophy.

The PCB has identified the need for major renovations and has made improving the Champions Trophy venues in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi a top priority. In order to effectively organize the competition, the venues must adhere to international standards.
