Varun Chakravarthy of the KKR wants bowlers to stop “crying” about the Impact Player rule

At the Eden Gardens, KKR defeated DC by 7 wickets to secure their spot in second place in the Indian Premier League standings. With the KKR bowlers tearing up the DC side in the early half of the match, it was one of the few IPL 2024 games when the 200-run mark was not crossed in either inning. For his 3/16 spell, mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy was chosen player of the match.

Chakravarthy discussed the impact player rule in depth at the post-match news conference and advised the other bowlers to quit whining. Mohammed Siraj of the RCB has expressed his disapproval of the regulation and said that it makes bowlers’ and all-rounders’ lives in the IPL more difficult. The rule’s need has also been questioned by others since international cricket does not adhere to it.

“We have to move on and acknowledge that this IPL is different somewhere. The Impact Player was available last season; this season, clubs have made greater use of it. After KKR defeated DC, Varun Chakravarthy said, “They want to charge first. No matter how much the bowlers cry, you have to take up the challenge.”

When asked about the KKR bowling lineup that produced a stunning comeback after an incredible hammering at the hands of PBKS, Chakravarthy said that the squad was happy to bowl in the game’s first innings. At Eden Gardens, DC captain Rishabh Pant had won the toss and chosen to bat first, thereby ending the visiting team’s chances.

“In the second innings, wickets have calmed down considerably. Undoubtedly, bowling in the first innings was a decent idea, and the pitch was a bit helping as well. In the press conference held after the match, the spinner said, “This pitch was a little more turning; in other matches, it was not helping this much.”

“The previous game was a very difficult pill to take. We spoke with the bowling instructor and the management. Shah Rukh Khan made a kind gesture after the PBKS game, which Chakravarthy disclosed. “SRK came to me yesterday and spoke to me personally. He said ‘whatever is happening in the IPL, do not take it personally, don’t self doubt yourself.'”

The spinner said that the humidity in Kolkata was a major factor in the difficulties of bowling since it made it extremely tough to grip the ball.

“The fingers have started to sweat in this high humidity, it was not the case in the last few years, but I don’t want to use that as an excuse,” said Varun.
