Problems for SP in Rampur and Moradabad due to two candidates

In two Lok Sabha seats in western Uttar Pradesh, Rampur and Moradabad, the Samajwadi Party is confronted with a contentious scenario where many candidates have submitted their nominations.

In all the seats, there are two candidates: one has been selected by SP President Akhilesh Yadav, while the other is loyal to senior party leader Mohd. Azam Khan.

S. T. Hasan, the current Member of Parliament, was once again nominated by Akhilesh Yadav as the party’s candidate in Moradabad, and he even submitted his candidacy.

When Akhilesh Yadav paid him a visit in prison last week, Azam Khan reportedly told Akhilesh that he did not agree with S. T. Hasan’s candidacy. Ruchi Veera was his suggested name for the Moradabad seat.

Ruchi Veera informed reporters that she had been requested to submit her nomination papers by Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday.

There are currently two SP candidates in Moradabad.

A comparable circumstance exists in Rampur, where Akhilesh has designated Maulana Mohibullah Nadwi, the Imam of the Jama Masjid on Parliament Street, as the party’s nominee. However, at approximately midday on Wednesday, the deadline for nomination submissions, Asim Raza, Azam Khan’s close aide, submitted the nomination, asserting that he was the official party candidate.

In case they did not get the candidate of their choosing, the Rampur Party activists had gone so far as to threaten to abstain from voting.

Senior SP leader Shivpal Yadav, in the meantime, has departed for Sitapur in order to meet with Azam Khan in prison and end the situation.
