ruling of the Allahabad High Court permitting Hindus to do prayers in the Gyanvapi basement today

The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee (AIMC) is contesting the Varanasi District Judge’s judgment permitting Hindu devotees to say prayers within the ‘Vyas Ka Tehkhana’ part of the Gyanvapi mosque complex. The Allahabad High Court will rule on the case on Monday.

The verdict will be delivered by Allahabad High Court Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal.

The court had previously postponed making a ruling after a protracted discussion between the parties.

The ruling will be made at ten in the morning.

In the basement of the mosque are four ‘makhanas’ (cellars), one of which is still occupied by the Vyas family who used to reside there.

Asaduddin Owaisi, the president of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, had earlier claimed that the Varanasi court’s decision to let Hindu devotees to say prayers within the Gyanvapi mosque complex’s “Vyas Ka Tekhana” section violated the Places of Worship Act.
