Sangam City will continue to celebrate Holi today

Prayagraj: On Monday and Tuesday, residents of Sangam city celebrated the festival of colours amid strict security measures.

On Wednesday, the ancient city district of Thatheri Bazar will host a similarly fervent celebration of the occasion. Curiously, Holi celebrants had a good time ripping up their Holi attire in the traditional manner, known as “kapdafaad holi,” at Loknath’s Chowk neighbourhood in the ancient city.

The Loknath pocket saw water hoses spouting water upon the revellers from high stories of buildings during “Kapdafaad Holi.” As they danced to a mashup of Bollywood Holi songs, the celebrants tore each other’s garments.
The festival of colours was seen being enjoyed by revellers of all ages, especially children, in almost every city neighbourhood. In addition, there were joint festivities in apartment buildings and residential colonies.
Loudspeakers at numerous intersections and locations also contributed to the festivities.
Everyone spotted dancing to the popular songs being played on these loudspeakers was either a local or a passerby.
“This year, we made special plans to celebrate Holi with herbal colours at our residential colony,” said Jyoti, an apartment resident. She also mentioned that the guests were welcomed with “gulal” and candies.
Police were stationed at all fixed sites to keep a close eye on the whole city, even regions with a mix of residents. Drones were also used by the police department to keep a close eye on areas of the old city during the event.
