The Samajwadi Party has declared Jaya Bachchan and Alok Ranjan, a former IAS officer, as its candidates for the Rajya Sabha

Ramjilal Suman, Jaya Bachchan, and retired IAS officer Alok Ranjan were the Samajwadi Party (SP)’s nominees for the Rajya Sabha in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.

Ranjan has received a nomination for the Rajya Sabha for the first time, while actor-turned-politician Jaya Bachchan has received another nomination.

“The SP’s candidates for the Rajya Sabha are Suman, Bachchan, and Ranjan. Today, they want to submit nominations, Rajendra Chaudhary, a spokesman for the SP, said PTI.

The SP may now send three members to the Uttar Pradesh legislature thanks to its rise in membership from 47 in 2017 to 108 at this time.

The INDIA bloc partner Congress has two MLAs, whereas the party has 108.

The SP would be able to send three MPs to the Rajya Sabha since a candidate requires 37 first choice votes to win a seat in the legislature.

When reporters in Lucknow questioned SP MLA Manoj Pandey about the selection of the candidates put forth for the Rajya Sabha elections, he said that Jaya Bachhan is descended from a well-known family in the nation, while Ramjilal Suman is a member of the PDA (Picchde, Dalit, Alpasankhyak).

On February 27, there will be elections for 56 Rajya Sabha seats distributed across 15 states. Nominations must be submitted by February 15 at the latest.

On February 27, voting will take place, and that same day, the results will be made public.
