thought to be a bootlegger; guy served three days in prison

AGRA: Manipuri police detained a 39-year-old driver for three days in lieu of a suspected bootlegger in a case of mistaken identification. Authorities claimed that an investigation into the matter has begun.

Pardeep Kumar, the victim, told TOI on Tuesday that he was urged by the police to send him to the police station while he was at work. When my wife and I went to the police on Sunday, they informed us that I had a warrant out for my arrest from a court in connection with a 2019 case involving the sale of illicit alcohol. Despite my repeated assurances that I was innocent and that there had been a mistake, I was taken into custody and imprisoned.
Before the judge granted Kumar bail, he was detained for three days. Later, a copy of the warrant was acquired, revealing that Kumar was not the person the police were searching for. Subsequently, the police reported to the court that they had made the erroneous arrest.
The guy and his father had the same name as the criminal and his father, according to house officer Maharaj Singh Bhati of the Bewar police station. As a result, an identification error occurred. He promised an investigation into the situation.
