UP Lok Sabha Election 2024: Important Seats To Be Checked | Nominations For First Phase Of LS Polls To Start Today

Lucknow: Today marks a momentous occasion as the nominations for the candidates in the first round of the Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh will open. The Election Commission said that the election notice will be sent out on March 20, and the nomination deadline is March 27. Notably, the announcement said that in order to file nominations, general candidates would need to pay a security deposit of Rs 25,000, while candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) would need to deposit Rs 12,500.

Important Seats on the First Phase List
On April 19, the first round of the Lok Sabha elections will be held in eight parliamentary seats in Uttar Pradesh: Saharanpur, Kairana, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Nagina (scheduled caste), Moradabad, Rampur, and Pilibhit.

The deadline for withdrawing a candidate is March 30. The nominations will be examined on March 28. The Election Commission further said that the vote count is scheduled for June 4. While the Samajwadi Party (SP) has forged an alliance with the Congress and is a member of the Opposition India group, the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) has declared its intention to run for office alone this time.

The National Democratic Alliance, headed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has partnered with the Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD).

Elections to the Lok Sabha in 2019: Historical Records
The BJP destroyed the SP-BSP coalition in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections by winning 62 seats and two seats from its ally Apna Dal (Secular). Sonia Gandhi’s single Rae Bareli seat went to the Congress. With ten seats, the Mayawati-led party emerged victorious in the SP-BSP coalition. The RLD was unable to register an account, and Akhilesh Yadav’s SP was able to win five seats.

The BJP won the parliamentary constituencies in Muzaffarnagar (Sanjeev Kumar Balyan), Kairana (Pradeep Kumar Chaudhary), and Pilibhit (Varun Gandhi) in 2019 out of the eight Lok Sabha seats up for election in the first round.

While Azam Khan of the SP won the Rampur Lok Sabha seat, SP leader S.T. Hasan won the Moradabad Lok Sabha seat. In the most recent general elections, Haji Fazlur Rehman, Malook Nagar, and Girish Chandra of the BSP secured the seats of Scheduled Caste in Saharanpur, Bijnor, and Nagina, respectively.

Now that it has solidified its position in the area via its alliance with the RLD, the BJP is hoping to win every seat in the first round of the election.

In this round, the BJP is fighting for for the remaining seven seats, while the RLD, with Chandan Chauhan on the ballot, is running for the Bijnor seat. However, Pilibhit continues to be a contentious seat since the BJP has not yet approved Varun Gandhi, its current MP, to compete for this position.
