UP Shocker: Man slashes his own throat in a Noida courtroom while facing charges of dower death

A dowry killing case at a Greater Noida court in Uttar Pradesh descended into violence on Friday when the lead accused stabbed himself in the neck while on the court grounds. After being taken to a neighboring hospital right away, the guy was declared to be safe.

According to authorities, the court has postponed the case’s hearing.

The guy is identified as Greater Noida resident Shivam Singh, 35, of Pawli village.

After Singh’s wife was discovered dead at their house, her parents filed a complaint with the Jarcha police.

In March 2022, he was taken into custody by the police and charged with suspected dowry death under section 304 B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), which imposes penalty for dowry death. He was imprisoned with his brother. Right now, he is free on bond.

Singh was scheduled to appear on Friday before Surajpur’s fast-track court I, the extra district judge’s court, where the complainants’ statements were scheduled to be recorded.

The official said, “Singh took a knife from under his clothes and slashed his own neck as the court hearing got underway.”

After being taken to a hospital, he was declared safe but under monitoring by the medical staff, as reported by the police.

After his wife passed away, the man’s daughter is said to have moved in with her maternal grandma.

His attempt at suicide was not the first one. According to an article published in the Millennium Post, Singh attempted suicide while incarcerated.

He had previously informed the police that he did not want to live any longer since he believed that everyone believed he is a killer.
