In Doddaballapura, Bengaluru, A Dog Acts As A Goat’s Surrogate Mother

There are a ton of sweet films on social media that radiate love, happiness, and warmth. One such video, posted by Local 18 Kannada, has touched many people’s hearts. A one-week-old newborn goat is shown in the video nursing on a female dog’s milk. on the footage, a girl is seen rushing while holding a newborn goat on her lap and approaching the dog. The goat begins consuming the dog’s milk, and the dog doesn’t seem uncomfortable at all. Doddaballapur, a town in the Karnataka district of Bengaluru Rural, is the location of the video.

This goat, this dog, and many more creatures are looked after by a guy called Krishnaprasad and his family. Krishnaprasad’s daughter is the one seen in the Local 18 Kannada byte, bringing a goat close to the dog. The fact that a young goat survives on dog milk surprises the villagers. The fact that the goat consumes dog milk instead of her mother’s startles Krishnaprasad, the goat’s owner.

Over the last week, there has been a noticeable growth in the dog and goat’s friendship. Their owner, Krishnaprasad, maintains about thirty goats in his house. For the last two years, the dog has not only been raising one young goat but also many other goats. Two weeks before, this dog had given birth to three cubs. Sadly, only two of the cubs made it out alive; the other one perished. Those pups were taken without Krishnaprasad’s knowledge. Krishnaprasad’s goat, however, had given birth only a week before. The mother dog, whose pups have also perished, now gives her newborn goat milk to eat.

Scientists have often been perplexed by the unusual display of maternal instinct that animals exhibit for the offspring of others. Ecologist Michael Weiss discussed this topic in an interview with the LiveScience site. According to him, the act of providing care for an unrelated, parentless child most likely evolved because it gives the foster parent an evolutionary benefit. For females without children, adoption might provide invaluable experience in providing care. He said that it may also raise the likelihood that their future offspring will survive.
