Nothing, A Free-Riding Ostrich in a South Korean City

The sight of an ostrich running wild among the traffic startled the commuters in Seongnam City, South Korea. At 9.30 am, the ostrich, Tadori, was seen on the road. The bird was apprehended and returned to the ecological park after almost an hour. Tadori managed to get out of the nearby ecological park by squeezing through a small opening between the gates, according to the Korea Herald. The bird reportedly showed indications of stress and hostility after the death of its partner, Tasuni, last month. Since they were chicks, the two had been raised together on the nature experience farm.

The bird was photographed around 10.25 a.m. in Sangdaewon-dong, Seongnam, next to a storage facility. Luckily, no one was hurt, and the bird’s leg injuries were rather minor. The biggest and heaviest bird that still exists on Earth is the ostrich. It is renowned for taking strong steps. The birds without wings have a 30- to 43-mph running speed.

Ostriches are not kept as pets since they need a lot of room to spread out and gallop. wildlife rights advocates have long maintained that ostriches and other wild creatures shouldn’t be kept in captivity in zoos or wildlife parks.

An ostrich has broken free from its confinement and entered the city before. An ostrich broke out of a private zoo in Karachi, Pakistan, back in January 2021. On the roadways, the bird was seen rushing. After being caught, the bird was put back in its cage.

“This video makes me so emotional, Ban every zoo and send them to their natural habitat,” commented an X user in response to the video. Seeing him flee for his life on the road when all he wants is freedom breaks my heart.”

An ostrich was seen pursuing bikers on a lengthy stretch of desolate road in a 2016 Cape Argus Tour footage that went viral. Oleksiy Mishchenko, a biker, saw the wild bird pursuing other riders while he was competing in a cycling race. This video was posted by Mishchenko on YouTube, where it received over 26 million views.

Oleksiy stated, “The road by the oceanside was quiet and a little deserted,” in the description of the film. Just then, I saw a white ostrich on my left, and from the right, this beast sprang into the road and began to chase my buddies! At first, it was a bit frightening, but then I laughed so hard I thought I would fall off my bike. The ostrich seemed to be able to maintain a speed of 70 km/h without any difficulty, even at 50 km/h. Fortunately, the beast chose to part with us because our road was running out.”
