On Srinagar’s Dal Lake, Amazon opens the first-ever floating store, and a photo of it goes viral

Amazon India unveiled its first-ever floating shop on Dal Lake in Srinagar, Kashmir, on July 27, which is a big milestone. This service is a component of their “I Have Space” last-mile delivery scheme. For the benefit of those who are unaware, this initiative was established in 2015 and now has 28,000 neighborhood and kirana partners spread throughout around 420 towns and cities nationwide.

Amazon posted a picture of the new location on its official Twitter account along with the message, “We have onboarded the first ever floating ‘I Have Space’ Store on the Dal Lake, Srinagar. With the addition of this shop, we will be able to help small companies generate more revenue while also expanding our delivery network. Every day, Murtaza Khan Kashi, the proprietor of the houseboat Selec Town, would deliver goods to clients.

“While my main source of revenue is a houseboat, it only does so during the tourist season in Srinagar. But since running the houseboat is so expensive, it has been incredibly challenging for our family. I started exploring for new revenue sources to help with the rising costs,” Murtaza writes on Amazon’s site.

Customers in Srinagar will get goods more quickly and reliably thanks to this, according to Karuna Shankar Pande, Director of Amazon Logistics, India. Small firms will have more options as a result, and Amazon’s delivery system will be strengthened. “We are delighted to board Dal Lake in Srinagar’s first floating ‘I Have Space’ shop. This will allow us to provide dependable, effective, and quick delivery to consumers around Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake,” he said.
