Opinions on ‘Balushahi With Tea’ Upset Reddit, but Desis Show Interest in Brewing ‘Kadak Chai’

Making judgements seems to be a characteristic shared by Desis, and it happens often and in a variety of circumstances. Even while their judgements are sometimes contentious, one especially intriguing feature of their predilection for making judgments is their concern with judging the flavor of their favorite chai by its color. They carefully study the color of the tea and guess at its flavor before taking a drink. It resembles their sixth sense waking up at that precise instant. And when their “Kadak Chai”‘s color falls short of their expectations, Desis can’t help but berate it harshly. After all, they don’t want to interfere with the beverage that permeates every Indian’s thoughts and emotions.

Therefore, when a Redditor posted a picture of someone sipping tea and eating candy, Desis couldn’t help but voice their displeasure at the pale color of the Chai.

A user by the name of VideoBeast666 uploaded a photo to Reddit under the IndianFoodPhotos subreddit with the statement, “American Bro enjoying some Tea & sweets in India (balushahi & peda with homemade tea).”

In any case, it’s still not quite obvious whether the word “American Bro” refers to the poster personally or to his American buddy. However, this article was accompanied with a photo of a steel box containing Peda (thick, semi-soft spherical Indian sweets) and Balushahi (an Indian treat that resembles a glazed doughnut but has a unique texture and flavor), along with a cup of tea.

One user couldn’t help but say, “That’s just milk,” while another said, “That is the ugliest looking tea I’ve ever seen.” Brother is claiming to be sipping tea while consuming just milk. The image, however, has sparked debates over the peculiar pairing of having sweets with tea. “That’s not how it works,” a user chimed in, “you have tea with something crunchy/salty/Savory, NOT SWEET, coz tea is already sweet. Maybe try rusks, khaari (puff pastry), jeera butter, or simple Monaco biscuits.”

The original user finally resorted to explaining the situation in an other Reddit post after feeling forced to defend the criticized remarks. “My answer to people who criticized my tea,” they commented, “I HAVE PROOF THE FLASH WAS THE REASON IT LOOKED LIGHTER, SEE HERE, A PICTURE WITHOUT FLASH (SAME SWEETS & TEAT). I’m a cook, therefore I prepare tea like a pro! Since I’m a photographer, I can confirm that it was the flash.

Second off, barfi with tea and mithai with tea is how it is always served in the Doaba Punjab Himalayan Himachal Regions, the Redditor said, expanding on the pairing of sweets and tea. As many of you are aware, each state has its unique techniques for producing food, therefore that is how we serve ours.

Eventually, the Reddit article became viral and received over 300 upvotes.
