Single Delhi Mom Explains Financial Struggles With Less Than Rs 20,000 Salary, and Redditors Help

A member by the name of “Garima Soul” published her heartbreaking experience on Reddit about how she manages a family on an income of less than $20,000 per month. Garima went on to describe her experience, revealing that she is a 29-year-old single mother who works as a teacher at a tiny pre-primary school and pays some students’ tuition. Garima said, “I make $18.5k per month.” She presently pays 5.5K in rent for a 1BHK flat in East Delhi.

“My 4-year-old kid is nonverbal, (mildly) autistic, and autistic. I don’t have to pay for him since I take him to the school where I teach. The cost of treatment prevents me from enrolling him, Garima stated. She continued by saying that since they could not always afford to purchase fruits, she sometimes brings her kid to an aanganwadi where he may obtain free meals and wholesome snacks.

She answered, “Still, I usually find myself unable to save anything until the end of the month,” when asked about her money status. When I read articles here about individuals paying $30-$35k for rent, I simply imagine how much money I’d save if that were my wage. However, I also hear about people making $1-$1.5 lakh who are unable to save, so I think that as your income rises, so do the expectations.

Reddit users were heartbroken after learning Garima’s tale. Big appreciation to you for what you’re doing, said one individual. Please inform me whether your English is excellent. I can assist you in obtaining a wfh position with Amazon that pays around $30,000. You are SO STRONG, said another individual. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be, but please continue. How fortunate you are to have your kid. I would be delighted to look for assistance for your youngster. I send you blessings and good fortune. Mama, keep going.

Immense admiration for you, a Reddit user commented. I hope you have greater power. I’d want to contribute anything that could help your financial position. Since you have a child with autism and work in education, I would highly advise you to learn how to treat children on the autism spectrum. There aren’t enough persons in our region who are qualified to provide counseling to those who need it.
