‘Someone Brought Drugs…’: Zomato Apologizes After Mentioning Gurugram Police In Strange Post

Food delivery service Zomato has issued an apology for a humorous social media post on banana chips that seemed to downplay drug usage and received harsh backlash from online users.

The meal delivery service posted a picture of banana chips on a desk at their workplace and a laptop next to it with the message “HELPPP!!!” on X, previously Twitter. In its post, it also mentioned the Gurugram Police.

Zomato posted the picture on X, now known as Twitter, with the remark, “Hello @gurgaonpolice someone brought drugs to office.”

However, when the post received negative feedback from internet users, Zomato removed the popular article and apologized to the individuals who had criticized them by posting screenshots of the post.

They shouldn’t be tagging police accounts merely to get likes or RTs on social media, stated one of the X users who criticized the meal delivery service. Now, a Gurgaon Police officer would be required to react to this, using resources that may be better spent elsewhere.

Zomato replied to the tweet by expressing agreement with the user’s viewpoint and issuing an additional apology for the ‘irresponsible and unneeded’ comment.

Ravi, you’re correct. We understood it to be an unneeded and careless tweet after rereading it through a different perspective. Our heartfelt apologies, and we’ve removed it,” Zomato’s customer care handle said.

Zomato has been involved in a scandal over a social media post before. The contentious World Environment Day commercial for the meal delivery service was just taken off.

The advertisement, which features actor Aditya Lakhia, well known for portraying the part of “Kachra” in the film Lagaan, was launched on June 5 in honor of World Environment Day. The fundamental concept of the advertisement was a play on the term “Kachra” (trash), suggesting similarities between the name of the character in the movie and plastic rubbish.
