This Bloodhound Dog Locates Mexico’s Largest Drug Cartels

Do you recall Rafael Caro Quintero, the notorious drug lord, being arrested? For the Mexican authorities, it was a major victory. Quintero’s inclusion on the FBI’s “ten most wanted fugitive” list explains this. In addition, he was found guilty of murdering and torturing a US anti-drug agent. Quintero was notorious for being the leader of one of the largest drug enterprises in Latin America and for being a co-founder of the hazardous Guadalajara cartel. Who do you think was the greatest hero of the whole operation to capture the drug lord? Well, it was Max the dog, six years old. The cute dog has gained notoriety for bringing down the leaders of criminal cartels.

Max, a female bloodhound that served as a tracking dog for the Secretariat of the Navy of Mexico (SEMAR) for over six years, assisted in the capture of criminals when she was a member of the Mexican Marines. Max gained notoriety in July 2022 for assisting the US and Mexico in finding Rafael Caro Quintero. Notably, Max played a crucial role in the Mexican Armed Forces’ Urban Search and Rescue Unit (USAR). When Chiquihuite Hill collapsed in 2021 due to a major landslide, Max helped save several people during his time with the force that assists people after natural disasters.

The particular dog was scheduled to retire in 2023, but surprise, it continued to work for an extra year. Authorities praised Max after his “great work” in a statement issued by SEMAR, but they also made clear that they will be searching for other dogs to continue Max’s legacy. Authorities want canines that can “serve and track in search and rescue operations for this noble institution,” according to the statement.

The courageous dog, Max, was born in 2016 and weighs around 78 pounds. Speaking about the dog, the Mexican military said that it is an expert in tracking. The military said that they had carried out many search operations with the armed forces and that Max had been a member of the forces throughout the capture mission.
