Vikram Lander’s Chandrayaan-3 image of the moon from a close distance

ISRO published pictures of the Moon taken by the Vikram Lander Module on August 18 as Chandrayaan-3 successfully made progress toward its eagerly awaited Moon touchdown. The pictures were captured on August 15 and August 17 by the Lander Position Detection Camera. Yesterday, the Lander Module successfully disengaged from the Propulsion Module, and as of right now, according to ISRO, its health is normal. The LM underwent a deboosting procedure to lower its orbit, and another deboosting procedure is planned for August 20.

ISRO provided a mission update on social media. The Lander Module (LM) health for the Chandrayaan-3 mission is normal. Deboosting was successfully completed on LM, resulting in a 113 km by 157 km orbit. The second deboosting procedure is slated to take place on August 20, 2023, at 02:00 IST.

Additionally, the space agency posted pictures of the moon on its official X profile (formerly Twitter).

“Chandrayaan-3 Mission: View from the Lander Imager (LI) Camera-1 on August 17, 2023 just after the separation of the Lander Module from the Propulsion Module,” the post said.

The second article said, “Chandrayaan-3 Mission: as captured by the Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC) on August 15, 2023.”

The photographs astounded the online community. “Happy landing, Vikram lander,” one person said. “Iconic and historical pictures. happy with ISRO. Eagerly anticipating the meeting on August 23,” a second user of the internet commented. “Fingers crossed for the 23rd Aug Indian space missions are the cheapest in the world by far,” chimed in a second.

The third lunar exploration project by India’s Indian Space Research is called Chandrayaan-3. On August 23, the touchdown Module is anticipated to make a smooth touchdown on the south pole of the moon. India will join the US, Russia, and China as the fourth nation to do so if the landing goes according to plan. On July 14, the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Andhra Pradesh hosted the IRSO’s Chandrayaan-3 launch.
