Businesses are being transformed by generative AI quickly: survey

According to a poll, 60% of Indian CEOs are hopeful about the influence of the next generation of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) on the workplace. This includes technologies like ChatGPT, Dall-E, and everything in between.

The Boston Consulting Group poll found that attitudes varied by seniority and by nation.

The poll is based on responses from 12,800 individuals, ranging from front-line workers to executives in 18 different businesses.

Brazil (71%) is the nation with the most optimism about the effects of GenAI on the workplace, followed by India (60%) and the Middle East (58%) according to the report.

The United States (46%), the Netherlands (44%), and Japan (40%) have the lowest levels of optimism.

The Netherlands (42%), France (41%), and Japan (38%), among other countries, are the regions most worried about AI, while the Middle East (25%) and Brazil (19%) and India (14%) are the regions least concerned.

61.6% of the 1,000 respondents in India are upbeat about the instrument, and 72.8% of them think GenAI would provide more benefits than hazards.

Additionally, almost 88% of respondents think AI would probably change the way they do their jobs, and 80% think legislation related to AI are required.

According to Nicolas De Bellefonds, the global head of AI and software at BCG X, BCG’s tech build and design team, GenAI is a fast expanding field whose revolutionary influence is already being felt in workplaces all over the globe.

According to the poll, 52% of respondents are enthusiastic about AI’s effects on the workplace, up from 35% in 2018.

Indian executives are the most positive about the transformational potential of AI among the 18 nations questioned, according to Nipun Kalra, managing director & partner and head of BCG X in India.

The poll also revealed that top executives are more positive and less worried about generative AI than frontline workers since they utilise it more often. Only 42% of frontline personnel agree with the 62% of CEOs who are bullish about AI.

Additionally, GenAI is seen favourably by 62% of frequent users compared to 36% of non-users. Comparatively, just 20% of frontline staff report consistently using GenAI technologies, compared to 80% of bosses.

In addition, frontline workers (60%) constituted up the biggest group of non-users.

Globally, 36% of respondents feel that AI would likely replace their work, and 86% think that they will need to upgrade their skills.
