The government permits Aadhaar authentication for birth and death certificate registration

The usage of Aadhaar for the registration of birth and death certificates has undergone a significant upgrade from the government. Aadhaar information is no longer required for birth and death certificate registrations as of the most recent change. During the registration procedure, people may now choose “Yes” or “No” for Aadhaar authentication when entering their personal information. In order to identify family members in the case of a death, this authentication procedure will be very important.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MEiTY) authorized the Registrar General of India office to utilize the Aadhaar database for validating the identification information submitted during birth and death registration, according to a Gazette notice released on June 27.

The creation of policies to carry out the new instructions has been mandated by state governments and administrations of Union territories.

The government seeks to improve the quality and dependability of data by integrating Aadhaar identification into the birth and death registration procedure. This project is anticipated to assist overcome the difficulties posed by unrecorded births and provide a stronger framework for the administration of demographic data.

The most recent action was taken after the Unique Identification Authority of India adopted a plan to assign Aadhaar when a birth certificate is issued. More than 20 states have already made the program operational, and it is anticipated that the other state governments will soon do the same.

In 2020, MEiTY published regulations stating that, in the interests of good governance, preventing the loss of public money, and increasing ease of living, the Center may permit Aadhaar authentication by asking organizations.

To use Aadhaar authentication, a Ministry or State government must create a proposal to support such authentication and submit it to the Central for referral to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI).
