Imran wants officials who “stole” the mandate to face treason charges

The imprisoned former prime minister of Pakistan, Imran Khan, has filed a request for high treason charges against those who he claims stole the mandate of his party from the general elections held in February, allowing the PML-N and the PPP to create a coalition government.

Speaking to media on Saturday during the hearing of the Al-Qadir Trust corruption case, in which his wife Bushra Bibi, assistant Farah Gogi, and real estate mogul Malik Riaz are also accused, were Khan’s words.

There were claims of vote tampering during Pakistan’s elections on February 8. Even though Imran’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed over 90 independent candidates secured the most seats in the National Assembly, the PML-N, headed by Nawaz Sharif, and the PPP, led by former foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto, reached a post-election agreement and established a coalition government in the nation.
