Joe Biden and Jordanian King spoke about sending Gaza life-saving humanitarian goods

The White House released a statement stating that US President Joe Biden and King Abdullah II of Jordan spoke over the phone about the most recent events in Gaza and their commitment to supporting the increased, continuous delivery of life-saving humanitarian assistance to civilians in the besieged enclave as well as the resumed provision of essential services.

Biden “reiterated the importance of protecting civilian lives and respecting international humanitarian law, as Israel defends its citizens and combats terrorism,” the statement said, during his speech to the monarch on Tuesday.

The two leaders also spoke about the urgent need to put an end to violence, control language, and ease tensions in the area, and they agreed that it was “critical to ensure that Palestinians are not forcibly displaced outside of Gaza.”

According to the White House statement, Biden and the King “affirmed their commitment to work together and with other regional partners to set the conditions for a durable and sustainable peace in the Middle East, including the establishment of a Palestinian state.”

According to a statement released by Jordan’s Royal Hashemite Court, King Abdullah stressed the significance of a ceasefire and an urgent humanitarian truce in the Gaza Strip as well as the need of ensuring the continuous supply of humanitarian supplies.

The leader of Jordan also called for intensifying efforts to put an end to the conflict and move toward a political settlement, emphasizing that the two-state solution—which ensures the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 border—is the only way to resolve the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Over 50% of Jordan’s population is of Palestinian descent, which includes Queen Rania, who has recently voiced her disapproval of Israel’s activities in Gaza.

In 1994, the two nations signed a peace deal.
