Lenin’s Tomb Molotov Cocktail Attempt by Man: Detained

A Moscow court on Thursday mandated the arrest of a Russian man suspected of attempting to burn Lenin’s tomb in Red Square.

Russian news source RIA Novosti cites the Tagansky court in Moscow as saying that Konstantin Starchukov was held in pre-trial custody for the alleged assault for two months.

The day before his 37th birthday, Starchukov reportedly threw a Molotov cocktail in the direction of the mausoleum of the Soviet Union’s founder before being stopped by authorities, according to Russian media.

Starchukov might be sentenced to up to seven years in jail for “hooliganism” in connection with the alleged firebombing attempt, although the court made no mention of a potential reason.

A suspect made an attempt to break into the tomb in May 2023, and in February, a drunken guy tried to take Lenin’s mummified body.

Even though Russian President Vladimir Putin publicly rejected the notion of burying the Soviet leader in 2019, the fate of the Bolshevik leader’s bones is still a contentious issue in that country.

Lenin’s tomb, which was dedicated in 1924, the year of his passing, is prominently located on Red Square at the base of the Kremlin walls and is frequented by many visitors each year.
