Only a little quantity of aid is getting into Gaza: UN

The UN humanitarians claim that the twenty trucks bringing supplies into Gaza from Egypt on October 24 are far from sufficient.

According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 20 trucks entered Gaza on Monday, with half of them delivering UN supplies, including food, water, and medication.

34 trucks carrying essential supplies were permitted to reach Gaza on October 21 and 22.

According to OCHA, this is comparable to barely more than 4% of the daily average amount of goods entering Gaza before the most recent crisis.

On October 21, a convoy of 20 trucks crossed into Gaza via Rafah for the first time in two weeks since the outbreak of the Hamas-Israeli war on October 7.

Fuel has not been a part of aid shipments into Gaza.

According to OCHA, the UN Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA), by far the major humanitarian relief provider in Gaza, may run out of gasoline within the next two days.

“Water desalination cannot operate if there is no fuel. Without gasoline, humanitarian partners will also be forced to concentrate almost exclusively on carrying water for the sake of providing help. No bakeries and no hospitals are also included,” it said.

An estimated 1.4 million people are internally displaced in Gaza, with almost 580,000 taking refuge in 150 emergency shelters designated by UNRWA.

As the average number of individuals per shelter has surpassed more than 2.5 times capacity, it claimed, humanitarians are warning about overpopulation.

Considering the lack of energy, drugs, equipment, and specialist people, the situation in hospitals continues to be severe.

Approximately 5,000 patients are being treated in Gaza City’s Shifa Hospital, the biggest hospital in the Gaza Strip, which is much more than its 700 patient capacity.

According to OCHA, this is on top of the 45,000 or more internally displaced persons who have already sought safety within and around the hospital.

29 medical institutions and 23 ambulances have been targeted in 62 assaults on healthcare, according to the World Health Organization.

According to the report, seven hospitals, all in Gaza City and the northern part of the Gaza Strip, were compelled to close owing to the damage they incurred, a shortage of supplies and electricity, and evacuation orders.

According to OCHA, Gaza has been without power for 14 days running.
