Sindh, Pakistan: Two buses collide, leaving 7 dead and 42 injured

On Sunday, a head-on accident between two passenger buses on Sindh’s Mehran Highway resulted in at least seven fatalities and 42 injuries.

According to Dawn, the collision between two passenger buses traveling between Peshawar and Karachi occurred on Daur Bandhi Road at approximately 4 am.

The incident happened as a result of the cars’ excessive speeds, according to Mohammad Younis Chandio, the deputy inspector general of police in Benazirabad. He said that People’s University of Medical and Health Sciences had been contacted to treat the wounded.

He continued by saying that after the collision, the Mehran Highway was blocked to traffic and traffic was rerouted to the National Highway.

The bus used shortcuts on the Mehran Highway to conserve gasoline, which was against the terms of their route licenses, and the police have filed a complaint against the employer of the two drivers.

At least 13 people, including five women, died and 31 others were injured earlier this month when a bus left the Islamabad-Lahore Motorway and flipped close to Kallar Kahar. Pakistan has a high rate of traffic accidents as a result of inadequate car and road upkeep.
