IIM Indore Advances Cross-Border Land Port Management Education

MUMBAI: IIM Indore and the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a noteworthy step forward in the advancement of educational partnerships in land port administration. This historic agreement intends to support education and training programmes in land port administration and operations, not only in India but also in its neighbouring nations, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Nepal, and Bhutan, among others.

On April 2, 2024, Mr. Ajeet Kumar Singh, Director of Operations, LPAI, and Prof. Himanshu Rai, Director of IIM Indore, signed the Memorandum of Understanding. On this occasion, there was also Mahesh Kumar, LPAI’s advisor for training, and Prof. Manish Popli, a faculty member of IIM Indore.

Prof. Rai expressed excitement about the partnership and underlined the institution’s commitment to using focused educational interventions to support nation-building. He said, “IIM Indore is excited to start this partnership with the LPAI. This MoU demonstrates our commitment to provide relevant, industry-focused education and training sessions to LPA officers in neighbouring countries as well as the Indian government and administrative authorities. Together, we will train land port authorities from other nations while we train the leadership of LPAI.

IIM Indore will carry out research projects, create curricula and training modules, host seminars and conferences, and conduct both in-person and virtual training courses under the terms of this memorandum of understanding. “We want to improve executive education programmes on general management and land port-specific domains, create content that can be used as a knowledge base, and hold yearly seminars with special guests to share insightful information.” Additionally, our students will get the opportunity to intern with LPAI,” he said.

Singh also conveyed his happiness about the partnership with IIM Indore. “We are thrilled to collaborate with IIM Indore, a distinguished institution recognised for its academic brilliance,” he said. The Land Port Authorities will gain a great deal from this partnership in terms of talent development and capacity building. He went on, “The management expertise of the faculty at IIM Indore will surely help optimise the operations of land ports, thereby facilitating smoother trade and commerce.”

An important step has been taken to raise the bar for land port management education and promote cross-border collaboration with the signing of a three-year Memorandum of Understanding between LPAI and IIM Indore. By working together, all parties will have the opportunity to significantly improve land port operations’ efficacy and efficiency, which will promote regional economic development.
