10 teachers in Ludhiana have not received their pay in 13 months

The district’s teachers at Lajpat Rai DAV College in Jagraon, who come under the category of uncovered teaching personnel, are suffering since they haven’t received their salary for the previous thirteen months. They have begged the authorities repeatedly, but their wages have not been paid yet.

The 10 instructors who are upset have been complaining to the college administration for more than a month about not receiving their pay since January 2023, but the matter is still unsolved. The Punjab and Chandigarh College Teachers Union (PCCTU) was contacted by them to provide aid. Currently, a letter bringing attention to the issue has also been sent to Punjab University’s (PU), Chandigarh vice-chancellor.

One of the instructors who has not received pay, Professor Kunal Mehta, said that since the uncovered teaching staff has not gotten pay in more than a year, it is difficult for them to satisfy their daily family necessities. He said that since January 2023, ten college instructors had not received their pay.

The pay have to be made public as soon as possible, he added.

Professors Vikas Mendiratta, PS Bajwa, and other academics claim that despite their repeated requests, the institution has not yet received a specific response. They are having a difficult time, thus they are asking that their paychecks be given as soon as possible. The teaching staff (uncovered category) has likewise made the decision to focus only on teaching and not do any other administrative job.

The vice-president of the PCCTU and a fellow of the PU, Jagdeep Kumar, claimed the college instructors had contacted him about the issue. In this respect, he next wrote to the Vice-Chancellor of PU.

According to Jagdeep’s letter to the PU VC, the administration of LRDAV College, Jagraon, is accused of seriously breaking the PU regulations governing the compensation of instructors employed at associated institutions by failing to pay teachers’ wages for the previous thirteen months. The letter continues, saying that all professors are chosen by the PU selection committee via the appropriate channels, and the university also approves of their positions. A salary hold-up of this length (13 months) is unreasonable, against the rules, and a form of financial abuse.

It has been urged that the VC become involved in the situation.

However, according to college head Dr. Anuj Kumar Sharma, there are financial difficulties at several of the state’s institutions. Due to the financial crisis, several universities in the state have experienced such a circumstance. He did, however, assert that the compensation dispute will be settled since it only concerned a small number of their college’s unidentified teaching staff members. He clarified that the institution was financially supported and that all other staff members’ wages were paid on schedule in accordance with the funding they were awarded.

filed complaints a month ago
