4 Naxalites were injured in a police encounter in Chhattisgarh and were dragged into a forest hideout by their fellow officers, according to police

At least four Naxalites were allegedly injured in a clash with police forces on Saturday in the Chhattisgarh region of Sukma, but their comrades were able to take them into a woodland hideaway, according to an official.

According to Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavhan, the encounter happened this morning close to Regadgatta village when a combined District Reserve Guard (DRG) squad of police was out on an anti-naxal operation.

According to him, the operation was started as a result of information regarding the presence of Konta area committee of Maoists member and Naxalite leader Mangdu and his crew in the villages of Maraiguda and Regadgatta. He said that when the patrolling crew was shot at by the Naxalites, a gunfight ensued.

The Naxalites withdrew into a thick woodland after a short exchange of fire. He said that a search effort was in progress and that while three to four Naxalites were reportedly wounded during the gunfire, their comrades were able to pull them within the jungle.
