4,440 active COVID cases in India as of today, with 5 deaths each day

Delhi, New: The health ministry said today that there have been five new Covid deaths and 602 new instances of the infection nationwide.

There are 4,440 known instances of the illness that are currently active.

The ministry’s statistics updated at 8 am show that while two additional deaths have been reported from Kerala, one each has been reported from Karnataka, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu.

One of the deaths in Kerala was a 66-year-old male with sepsis, multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, and chronic liver illness; the other victim was a 79-year-old lady with sepsis and coronary artery disease.

Up until December 5, 2023, the number of Covid cases each day had fallen to double digits; however, with the advent of a new variation and the onset of cold weather, instances have increased once again.

At the height of the epidemic, which started in early 2020 and has resulted in over 4.5 crore infections and over 5.3 lakh fatalities in around four years nationwide, the daily figures were in lakhs.

According to the ministry’s website, nearly 4.4 crore individuals have recovered from the illness, meaning that the country’s recovery rate is 98.81 percent.

As to the website, the nation has given 220.67 crore doses of the Covid vaccination so far.
