A viral audio clip about ethnic violence led to vandalism at the home of a former Manipur police officer in Imphal

On Monday, a vengeful group damaged the Yaiskul home property of the former Manipur ASP Thounaojam Brinda in Imphal West. Brinda wasn’t at home when the event happened, however.

This event occurred after the re-emergence of a widely circulated audio tape with Brinda discussing a group associated with the private militias of Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

Brinda was heard in the audio tape blaming Meitei Leepun and the Meitei socio-cultural group Arambai Tenggol for the unrest in Manipur.

The Torbung United Club (TUC) responded to Brinda’s allegations by requesting that she provide a public apology and provide further information on her statement by Wednesday at midnight.

Tensions increased as a result of Brinda’s insinuation, and the angry people of Torbung Bangla gave Brinda a two-day ultimatum.

WHAT ARE THEY REQUIRING?

1. They have insisted that she withdraw her remarks.

2. They also requested that she issue an apology in public.

Brinda will also have to leave her home, according to the TUC, if she doesn’t comply with their requests.

The former Manipur ASP has neither apologized nor taken back her remarks in spite of all of this pressure.

Brinda said in an interview with News18 that she has been providing explanations on a regular basis. “When Rambai Tenggol and Meitei Leepun visited my residence, I gave them clarifications. When Meira Paibis arrived, I apologized and gave them clarification as well,” she stated.

Even today, ladies came over to my house, but I wasn’t there, so I’m taking care of it now. Still, I’m furious that they damaged my possessions, ancestral relics, and historical items, Brinda said.

It is important to remember that she had previously said in an interview that these organizations were employed by Chief Minister N Biren Singh and that they were also responsible for the outbreak of violence in the state.

She eventually apologized and made it clear that a video had deceived her.

Once again, the audio tape has leaked, which has infuriated the groups to the point that they have vandalized Brinda’s home. The only thing that has changed is that she hasn’t apologized yet.
