After Amit Shah’s appeal, 140 weapons were given up in the Manipur violence

Following a plea from Union Minister Amit Shah, Manipur police said on Friday that as many as 140 firearms had been turned in at various locations around the state.

Amit Shah, the union home minister, issued a warning to criminals on Thursday and requested that they surrender their firearms to the authorities because “a comb-through operation will start tomorrow, forcing officers to take strict action.”

A judicial panel will look into the event, according to Shah’s other announcement.

Amit Shah, the union home minister, visited Manipur for four days while there in an effort to bring about peace. He said that there will be a legal investigation into the violent conflicts between the Kuki and Meitei populations in the northeastern regions.
