After the Union Cabinet approves the women’s reservation bill, Congress leader Sonia Gandhi declares, “It Is Ours, Apna Hai”

The Congress party applauded the action, which the grand old party has supported for years, while simultaneously maintaining skeptical about the substance of the Women’s Reservation Bill, hours after the Union Cabinet purportedly passed the bill.

“We welcome the reported decision of the Union Cabinet and await the details of the Bill,” said Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh in a post on X. The Congress leader said that rather than proceeding in secret, “this could have very well been discussed in the all-party meeting before the Special Session, and consensus could have been built.”

The Women’s Reservation Bill may be the first piece of legislation enacted in the new parliament building, according to rumors that are swirling around the start of the first day of the Special Session of Parliament in the new building. Remember that the Bill was approved in the Rajya Sabha on September 3, 2010, during the UPA administration. The BJP is bringing back the Bill it had buried in the expectation that the uproar against it would die in its tenth year, according to senior Congressman P. Chidambaram.

“On the contrary, the Congress has vociferously argued for the Bill’s passage in Parliament at every opportunity, most recently at the CWC in Hyderabad. Let’s hope the Bill will be presented and approved during the current Legislative Session, said the former Union minister.

The Congress also released a social media message from Rahul Gandhi, who led the party at the time, from 2018 in which he urged passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill. On July 16, 2018, Gandhi tweeted: “Our PM claims he’s a warrior for women’s empowerment? It’s time for him to put party politics aside, act on what he says, and see that the Women’s Reservation Bill is approved by Parliament. The Congress extends to him its unwavering support.

On Monday, Prahlad Singh Patel, a minister of state, announced on social media site X that the Union Cabinet has passed a bill granting women’s reservations. “Only the Modi administration had the moral fortitude to comply with the demand for women’s reservation, as seen by the cabinet’s assent. He said in a post that was subsequently removed, “congrats Narendra Modi ji and congrats to the Modi administration.

However, in response to these allegations, Congress said that the party had been in favor of the Women’s Reservation law. Ramesh had said that the Congress party had been pressing for nine years for the Lok Sabha to approve the Women’s Reservation Bill, which had previously been approved by the Rajya Sabha.

Sonia Gandhi, a senior member of the Congress, responded to a question from reporters on the Women’s Reservation Bill by saying, “It is ours, Apna Hai,” before to the start of the session. While the passage of the law is credited to the Narendra Modi-led BJP administration, previous governments have emphasized the issue of women’s participation in Indian politics.
