Arvind Kejriwal in Tihar: Voting is the only way to react, the AAP claims as it knocks on doors

NEW DELHI: Tuesday marked the beginning of the Aam Aadmi Party’s “Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se” campaign in the Vishwas Nagar district of East Delhi parliamentary constituency. The campaign aims to mobilize public opposition to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s incarceration and translate that opposition into votes for the Lok Sabha elections.

Gopal Rai, the environment minister and Delhi state chairman for the AAP, along with Kuldeep Kumar, the party’s candidate for East Delhi, went door-to-door and handed out flyers.

A bunch of party employees wore a picture of Kejriwal imprisoned around their necks, adorned with white hats and blue-and-yellow stoles.
AAP officials have stepped up their campaigning in states where they have filed candidates, either running alone or in tandem with partners in the India bloc, in anticipation of the multi-phased elections that will soon take place. Rai campaigned in East Delhi on Tuesday, while Sanjay Singh, a member of the Rajya Sabha, conducted meetings in Punjab and his cabinet colleague Atishi canvassed in Assam.
Rai said to the people during his campaign in east Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar that Kejriwal was imprisoned by the Modi government because he attempted to oppose the BJP’s “tyrannical politics.”
Rai spoke on how the AAP government was offering free water, free energy, a better health and education system, free bus rides for women, and free trips for the elderly in the capital, all while claiming that India’s democracy was being undermined.
Additionally, he included a clause in the budget that would provide women above the age of 18 with Rs 1,000 each month. The people of Delhi voted for Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal because he has served their interests. However, the Modi government detained and imprisoned him,” Rai said.
“The only way to respond to jail with votes—to respond to jail with the ‘jhadu’—is f for the people of Delhi to want a working chief minister released from jail,” Rai said.
The party volunteers will now go door-to-door beginning on Tuesday, according to the AAP’s Delhi convener. “Those who previously worked for Arvind Kejriwal will now support him in this election.” This is the door-to-door campaign’s goal. People often wonder why Kejriwal was sentenced to prison, no matter where we go. Rai said people relate to him on an emotional level.
According to the AAP, the people of Vishwas Nagar responded favorably to the campaign and told Kejriwal not to step down in any situation.
However, Praveen Shankar Kapoor, a spokesman for the Delhi BJP, predicted that the AAP’s door-to-door election campaign would be a disaster. “AAP leaders must realize that people no longer trust Arvind Kejriwal and want him to step down in the wake of today’s (Tuesday) high court order rejecting his plea against arrest,” he added.
“The door-to-door campaign to raise support for Kejriwal will also flop, just like their rally on March 31 and call for mass fasting on April 7,” he said.
