Ashwini Vaishnaw claims that Raghuram Rajan is a politician who engages in “Shadow-Boxing on Someone Else’s Behalf”

On Saturday, former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan was referred to as a politician who is “doing shadow-boxing on somebody’s behalf” by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

In response to a question on Rajan’s alleged claim that India is solely building mobile phones under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) plan, Vaishnaw made the comment.

“Good economists lose their economic sensibility when they become politicians. Raghuram Rajan has transitioned into politics. He should now come out, run for office, oversee elections, and engage in other political activities. Shadow boxing is not a good thing to practice. He is attempting to shadowbox for someone else, according to Vaishnaw.

According to the Minister, India would add more than 30% value to its electronics manufacturing industry over the next two years. In addition, three businesses will soon produce crucial components for mobile phones for the whole globe, he said.

Every nation that has begun producing electronics, according to Vaishnaw, has followed the same process of bringing Completely Knocked-Down (CKD) components, Semi Knocked-Down (SKD), and assembling the final product. Additionally, the creation of various components is followed by that of systems.

According to the minister, the current global supply chain is so complicated that no nation can claim to have a value addition of more than 40%.

He asserts that the maximum value addition that any nation can claim for its electronics industry is 40%, and India will attain a value addition of 30% or more in less than two years.

Therefore, Raghuram Rajan’s shadow-boxing tactics are unfair. He has achieved great success as an economist. I want him to remain an economist or become a politician,” he joked.

During the national Bharat Jodo Yatra, which spanned from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, former RBI governor Rajan temporarily traveled with Congressman Rahul Gandhi in Rajasthan. Gandhi had spoken with the top economist in between the nationwide march.
