Before New Year’s, the air in Delhi becomes “severe”; check the AQI in Noida, Ghaziabad, and Gurugram

Last weekend, Delhi residents woke up to oppressive conditions in 2023 as the air quality index (AQI) quickly plummeted to 400, well over the “severe” level. Several places in Delhi have Air Quality Index (AQI) values that fall into the ‘Severe’ category, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).

Anand Vihar in Delhi had an AQI of 425, Dwarka-Sector 8 recorded 425, RK Puram recorded 426, and Mundka recorded 431.

A score of zero to fifty is regarded as “good,” 51 to 100 as “satisfactory,” 101 to 200 as “moderate,” 201 to 300 as “poor,” 301 to 400 as “very poor,” and 401 to 500 as “severe.”

Predictions suggested that the hazardous conditions would likely last for a minimum of three further days and that the air quality would likely worsen if people choose to light firecrackers on New Year’s Eve.

The Central Pollution Control Board’s national report included data indicating that on Saturday, the air quality index (AQI) continued to oscillate between the severe and extremely bad categories. At midday on Saturday, Delhi’s 24-hour average AQI fell to 400 (in the “very poor” category) from 401 (in the “severe” zone) at 4 pm.

AQI falls within the “extremely poor” level in many Noida areas. AQI readings in Ghaziabad are 320, in Indirapuram they are 308, and in Vasundhara, they are 326. AQI is classified as “poor” in a number of Gurugram areas.
