BJP MP Brij Bhushan Singh’s sexual harassment case is being heard in city court, and renowned grapplers are supporting the plaintiff

On Thursday, Mahima Rai Singh, the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate in New Delhi (CMM), took an important step in the sexual harassment case involving six female wrestlers and BJP MP Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is also the departing WFI president. According to PTI, this assignment to a local court that is currently handling a similar case indicates that the legal process is moving forward.

Taking into account the Delhi police prosecutor’s assertion that Jaspal has been handling a plea filed by the women wrestlers seeking a court-monitored investigation into their claims of sexual harassment, the CMM assigned the case to Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Harjeet Singh Jaspal. Transferring the matter is being done to maintain uniformity and speed up the legal procedure.

Several well-known sportsmen, including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik, have come out with charges of sexual harassment against the female wrestlers. Numerous opposition parties and farmer organisations supported their cause, demonstrating the case’s wider relevance.

On June 15, the Delhi Police had previously filed a complaint against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, alleging sexual harassment and stalking. The subject will now be considered by Jaspal on June 27 while the judicial process continues.

In a shocking turn of events, the father of one of the young wrestlers engaged in the case admitted to PTI that he and his daughter had made a “false” police report against Singh out of retaliation for what they saw to be an injustice. This new information complicates the situation, calls into doubt the veracity of the accusations, and may have an effect on how the matter is handled in court.

Vinod Tomar, the Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) suspended assistant secretary, was also named in the charge sheet for allegedly aiding and abetting the crimes.

While the case was previously scheduled to be heard on June 22, the choice to give it to ACMM Harjeet Singh Jaspal is a calculated move towards securing a fair and well-thought-out resolution.
