Bombs in Mumbai: Delhi High Court rejects convict’s RTI request

Ehtesham Qutubuddin Siddique, a death row inmate in the 2006 Mumbai train explosion case, filed applications with the Delhi High Court requesting information regarding the investigating personnel and granting permission for his prosecution. The pleas were denied.

According to Justice Subramonium Prasad, there hasn’t been a shown public interest in providing the material requested by the petitioner under the Right to Material Act, and doing so may put the officers in severe risk.

There were seven explosions that tore through first-class carriages on suburban trains in the city, resulting in hundreds of injuries and 209 fatalities.

The petitioner had submitted RTI petitions for copies of UPSC forms and other records pertaining to the appointment of four IAS officials who approved his prosecution and twelve IPS officers who oversaw the probe.
