Due to the arrest of the MLA, mobile internet service was cut off in Nuh, Haryana

Due of potential unrest, mobile internet service has been blocked in Haryana’s Nuh district from Friday 10 am until Saturday 11:59 pm. In Nuh, the district administration applied Section 144 and ordered residents to perform Friday prayers at their residences. According to the directive, the suspension of mobile internet is necessary due to the emergency circumstances. The Haryana police had already detained Congress MLA Mamman Khan for his suspected participation in the July 31 Nuh violence.

According to the order suspending internet access, there is concern in the area about stress, irritation, agitation, damage to both public and private property, and disruption of public peace and tranquility. The injunction warned that improper use of the internet might disrupt both law and order and public utilities. The order stated that it was intended to “prevent the dissemination of false information and rumors through various social media platforms, such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, etc., on mobile phones and SMA, for the facilitation and mobilisation of mobs or agitators and demonstrators who can cause serious loss of life and damage to public and private properties by engaging in arson, vandalism, and other types of violent activities.”

The order stated, “It is emphasized that this order is being issued after taking the utmost care of public convenience by exempting individual SMS, mobile recharge, banking SMS, voice calls, internet services provided by broadband and lease lines of corporate and domestic households, thus not affecting the commercial/financial interest of the State and basic domestic needs of individuals…this order is being passed ex-parte in view of the emergent situation…,” it said.
