EC increases polling hours in T’gana due to the heat wave

Due to the widespread heatwave conditions, particularly in southern India, the Election Commission (EC) decided to extend polling hours for 17 Telangana Lok Sabha seats by one hour on Thursday.

The election authority sent out a statement announcing that the previous 7 am to 5 pm voting hours in Telangana will now be extended to 7 am to 6 pm.

On May 13, polls will be taken in all 17 Telangana seats in the fourth round of the seven-phase elections. Hyderabad, Chevella, Karimnagar, Zahirabad, Nizamabad, Medak, Malkajgiri, Secunderabad, Mahabubnagar, Nalgonda, Nagarkurnool (SC), Mahabubabad, Khammam, Bhongir, Pedapalle, Warangal (SC), and Adilabad will all be affected by the extended times, as stated in the EC statement.

Political parties now have to plan their outreach programs, door-to-door campaigning, and public demonstrations for early in the morning or late at night due to the prolonged heatwave. Up to May 6, the majority of the state’s districts will see these weather conditions.
