Following controversy over his “Gaumutra States” remark in the Lok Sabha, a DMK MP apologizes

In the Lok Sabha, the DMP MP who caused a stir by calling the states in the heartland “gaumutra states” has expressed regret for his remarks. When DNV Senthilkumar addressed the Lower House again today, he apologized for the comments he made yesterday against the BJP.

“I would want to retract my comments from yesterday if it unintentionally offended any members or groups of individuals. Mr. Senthilkumar addressed the Lok Sabha, saying, “I apologize and I ask that the words be removed.”

Despite his apologies a day later, Mr. Senthilkumar’s comment was removed yesterday.

He had called the heartland states “gaumutra states” during a discussion on two legislation about Jammu and Kashmir, claiming that the BJP could only win elections in those regions and not in south India.

“The primary reason why the people of this nation should believe that the Hindi heartland states—dubbed ‘gamut states’ generally—are where the BJP primarily can win elections. He had said in the Lower House, “You (BJP) cannot come to South India.

After the BJP won elections in the states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh while the Congress won Telangana, the ‘north-south’ argument has been fueled by his comments.

Responding to his comments, BJP officials questioned if Congressman Rahul Gandhi concurred.

Union Minister Anurag Thakur today said that the Congress and its supporters in the opposition camp were involved in a “conspiracy” to harm Hindus and the north of India. The BJP spokesman went on to say that the Congress’s failure in the most recent elections did not diminish their conceit.
