From August 1, NHAI Will Disallow Two-Wheelers And Autos On The Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway

From August 1 on, the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway will be closed to traffic for two-wheelers, automobiles, tractors, non-motorized vehicles, multi-axle hydraulic trailer vehicles, and quadricycles.

The decision was made by the authorities in response to an increase in the number of accidents on the highway that were recorded.

After a number of incidents were recorded along the route since it opened in March of this year, the state-owned NHAI also established a committee of road safety specialists to conduct safety inspection along the Bengaluru-Mysuru highway. This raised worries about the safety of commuters.

According to the NHAI’s notification from July 12, the movement of high-speed vehicles could endanger the safety of some classes of relatively slow-moving vehicles, including two- and three-wheelers, as well as other slow-moving cars and agricultural tractors (with or without trailers), due to vulnerability and associated speed differentials. This could also compromise other aspects of road safety.

“Therefore, it is now ordered that the following classes of vehicles are forbidden from utilizing the Bangalore-Mysuru Access Controlled Highway (NH-275), in accordance with the authority granted by section 35 of The Control of National Highways (Land and Traffic) Act, 2002.

Quadricycles, multiaxie hydraulic trailer vehicles, non-motorized vehicles, motor cycles (including scooters and other-wheelers), three-wheelers (including e-carts and e-rickshaws), and tractors special with or without trailers.

The NHAI said that other routes and highways are available for such types of cars to use for commuting, adding that the notice would go into effect on August 1.

The maximum speed restrictions for motor vehicles of different types for the Access Controlled Highway have been announced and range between 80km/hour, according to the NHAI. This Access Controlled Highway has been constructed as a high-speed corridor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened the 118 km Bengaluru-Mysuru Expressway project in March of this year.

The NH-275 segment between Bengaluru, Nidaghatta, and Mysuru will be six-laned as part of a Rs 8,480 crore project that would spur the socioeconomic growth of the area.
