Gandhinagar Lok Sabha Election 2024: List of party candidates, previous wins, margin, and constituency profile

Gujarat includes Gandhinagar as one of its Lok Sabha seats in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. There are 26 parliamentary seats in the state. Seven Assembly segments make up the Gandhinagar seat: Gandhinagar North, Kalol, Sanand, Ghatlodia, Vejalpur, Naranpura, and Sabarmati. The constituency is open to all candidates and is not exclusive to members of Scheduled Tribes or Castes (SCs or STs).

The two major political parties in the constituency are the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Gandhinagar was won by BJP veteran Lal Krishna Advani six times: in 1991, 1998, 1999, 2004, 2009, and 2014. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former prime minister, also had one victory in the seat in 1996 but left it after deciding to keep his Lucknow constituency.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the Gandhinagar seat had 19,45,772 voters, according to figures from the Election Commission. 10,04,291 male voters and 9,41,434 female votes made up this total. The third gender included 47 votes. 8,637 ballots were cast in the constituency via mail. In Gandhinagar, there were 623 service voters in 2019 (584 males and 39 women).

There were 17,33,972 voters in the Gandhinagar constituency overall in 2014. 8,33,210 votes were female and 9,00,744 voters were male. In this constituency, the ‘others’ group had 18 voters. In the constituency, 8,358 postal ballots were cast. In Gandhinagar, there were 895 service voters in 2014 (723 males and 172 women).

Amit Shah, the head of the Bharatiya Janata Party, won the seat for the first time in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, with 5,57,014 votes. With 8,94,624 ballots cast, he had a 69.58% vote share. With 3,37,610 votes (26.26%), he beat Dr. CJ Chavda, a candidate for Congress. 12,84,090 legitimate votes were cast in total.

Lal Krishna Advani, a BJP veteran and former deputy prime minister, won the seat six times in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. With 7,73,539 votes cast, he had a 68.03% vote share. In the race for Congress, Kiritbhai Ishvarbhai Patel came in second place with 2,90,418 votes (25.54%). Patel lost to Advani by a total of 4,83,121 votes. 11,35,495 valid votes were cast in this constituency overall. Rituraj Mehta, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, received 19,966 votes (1.76%) and finished third.
